Success from the 1/2 yard line is probably 70% v. 95% for a FG...
High odds of 7 points vs. very high odds of 3: I can see going for the TD. Add in the factors that 1. it was raining steadily which can affect a long snap (as happened once to VT), and 2. a failure to convert the TD leaves FSU standing in their endzone when they take over, and the TD try makes a lot of sense.
There is a very strong argument that taking a three-score lead into the 4th quarter overrides all of that. I think I would go for it.
A deep handoff on the TD try makes little sense to me. JJ can muscle that one in on a sneak.
