Yes they do live in VA, they are nocturnal

Only seen them twice.

One I spooked when walking a piece of property I just purchased in Lancaster Virginia which was during the day. Only saw him for a split second or two.

The other must of gotten beaten up during a heavy snow\wind storm. I saw trails in the yard, then that night he was on the deck eating seeds. I got to watch him for a cool half hour or so.
