I encountered a roundabout that the traffic in the roundabout yielded ..

to traffic entering the roundabout from one street. This was in Hilton Head, SC.
I will admit I screwed up there the first time I went thru, saw the yield sign too late. But just got a dirty look from what was likely a local in a work pickup entering from the non-yield street. Went thru the roundabout several times over a few days, about 1/2 the time other drivers did not follow the signs.
Just seems like a bad idea to have traffic in the roundabout yield when most drivers expect incoming traffic to be what yields, The design was effectively the same as if you were making a left turn you yielded to oncoming traffic in a turn lane, so why build a roundabout in the first place.
