Nice answer, but not buying. Not even close.
If Zabian played PG for Buzz on the teams JRob played on he would have a *ton* more assists, while also being the outstanding defender that he was. I don't think there is any way in the world that you could deny that, because half of JRob's assists are passing to a wide open shooter who buries a wide open 3. That's what the great motion in Buzz's offense creates. And Zabian had none of that to benefit from.
So you can label Dowdell how ever you want "lead guard," "not a true PG" whatever. It can't diminish the fact that he was an ___absolute stud___ on both ends of the court. Something that JRob cannot possibly lay claim to.
So, again, I don't care about stats because they don't tell the whole story. Zabian Dowdell won tons of games for VT by being outstanding on both halves of the court, a fact that everyone who watched him play acknowledged. And JRob has been mediocre *at best* on the defensive end.
So nothing against Justin Robinson. He is a very, very good player on some really good teams. But VT would have won more games (maybe 2 per year), and more important games, with Zabian Dowdell at that same position over the last several years. There is no doubt in my mind whatsoever.
