SLC sits in a bowl and every winter they deal with an inversion.

High pressure sits on top of the city and the air gets incredibly smoggy because the pollutants have nowhere to go. Usually about 20 to 30 days a year of dealing with that. Inversion isn’t as much of a problem in areas north of town at a higher elevation.

Probably stuff you already know, but thought I’d pass along just in case.
