It's not the first place I would start, certainly.


And as I said, it won't happen because to attract the best professors, you have to pay them. And for the most part, they earn it (at Tech, I know) through research, grants and whatever other monies they bring into the University.

The average salary of a professor at VT is $130k. That's Top 17.7% of incomes in America. Reduce that $10k and it drops like 2.8% to Top 20.5% and saves the University something like $15M a year. Is that a monumental change? No, but it could be a good starting point, especially in places like Blacksburg, VA where you don't need to earn nearly that much to live comfortably.
