Per the original question, the training staff is there to protect the
athletes. they're medical professionals, and have the knowledge and tools to treat the players.
The trainer should have seen Jordan McNair's condition and acted accordingly to save his life.
But if Durkin created an environment in which even the head trainer was afraid to tell the football staff to back off, that's a serious problem. That ultimately will be the question. Did the trainer fail to do his job, and did he not do it because Durkin wouldn't let him.
That behavior is a warning to any and all coaches.
