All the times UVa and VT have been on Friday have been at 8 pm


The reason these games have been played on Friday is because VT wants a prime time slot. This is much more likely on rivalry week if you play on Friday rather than Saturday. Out of the games you linked to that played on Friday, most of them aren't rivalries.
