Took the family to the Jersey Shore

Enjoyed a fun few days at Sandy Hook, the northern most part of the Shore.

My teenage daughter was a little wary of a sharks in the .water. I explained that Jersey was too far south and the waters were too busy for a shark to venture down in that area.

A little later, we see four dolphins out several hundred feet from the coast. Cool to see, but nothing to worry about. Dolphins are our friends.

15 minutes later my sons see a four inch fin 30 feet from them. They and everyone around hightail it out of the water. Turns out it was a dogfish, a bottom feeding sand shark.

Lifeguard, being a stud Jersey shore dude goes out and grabs the three foot shark and drags it out of the swimming area, never to be seen again

A long prelude to tell about a drastic shark attack that occurred maybe 50 miles from where we were in 1916. That year a shark attacked and killed four people off of Matawan Creek in New Jersey.

The incident is considered the inspiration of the book/movie Jaws and is one the people of Matawan would like to forget.
