Slightly different perspective on campus visits

My oldest son is in the process of forming decisions about where he wants to attend college. Although he isn't at a point where he has to make a firm decision, he currently has a clear first choice -- William & Mary.

We happen to go to Williamsburg fairly often, and since he's made this pronouncement we typically drive through the campus with the idea of giving him a feel for the place. But he never wants to actually stop, get out, and walk around. We happened to be there this past Saturday morning with some time to kill and I suggested that we might actually want to pop into the admissions office, which he vetoed.

When I quiz him about his plans, the conversation goes something like this....

ME: So if you had to choose a place to go to college right now -- which of course you don't, mind you -- what school would you pick?
BOY: Probably William & Mary.
ME: OK. Since we're here, would you like to spend a little time and actually check out the place in greater detail?
BOY: No. Not really.
ME: How certain are you that you want to come here?
BOY: Pretty certain.
ME: So you'll be spending a lot of time on this campus during a very formative part of your life....
BOY: Yeah....
ME: Yet you have no desire whatsoever to gain more insight into it?
BOY: No, not right now.

No idea what to make of this situation. But the subject matter of the thread definitely hit me square in the head.

Personally, I spent a lot of time at Tech when I was growing up (my parents both went to grad school and my older sister obtained her B.A. in Blacksburg), so there wasn't any particular "selling" to be done. I was already pretty comfortable before I ever enrolled.
