Roc's timing makes that unlikely

He would have had a contract in place elsewhere before July 1 if that were true, and it would have been a much better job than ECU.

Apparently the story is that Roc and Buzz had a huge falling out, and it was very recent. Roc was basically saying 'FU, I'd rather go make peanuts at ECU than deal with this sh!t". Roc most likely signed a 1-yr contract with VT on abouts June 30, worth ~$250k, and he apparently walked away from that on his own accord.
