Which many coaches do. But through their agent, so nothing leaks out

When a P5 head coach calls another P5 athletic director personally, that is information that ALWAYS leaks out, because it's so rare. Agents talk to athletic administrators all the time, and it's not even newsworthy enough for anyone to bother leaking; it's basically the reason coaches retain agents.
