Yep, he was the "front man" for the basketball schools
They didn't want an "all sports conference," so he tried to walk that thin line between what was best for the conference and what the BB only schools would allow him to do. They usually got their way.
He tried to keep everything together, and eventually it collapsed (as everyone expected.) The major "all sports" schools moved to "stable & coherent" conferences, and the little "BB only" schools picked up their train sets and left. The remaining AAC schools are pretty much stuck where they are now.
Is that Trained Geese's fault? Not in it's entirety, but he definitely had a huge hand in the demise of the Big Least. Just wonder what would have happened if the conference split back in the late 90s. Frankly, thought the Big Least had a stronger football conference than the ACC back then...
