If your starters get banged up and you don’t want them plying on special teams at the end of the year, you can play the freshmen, or if their is a blowout and you want to rest the 1st and 2nd teams, etc. I don’t see much more in it than that for most players.

I wish we could have played Vick for 4 games in 1998 though.
