Perils of recruiting / coaching

After the Galen Scott issue, there was some discussion on potential effect to VT. I just read the Mike Sainristil comments and he spelled it out why he was now considering another school:

“Before, the coach I was close with was Coach Scott,” Sainristil said. “But now, the best I have is with Adam Lechtenberg. I understand what happened. (Scott) had to fix what happened. It’s not my place to say, because of what he did, how I view him. I understand he has to fix it. I wouldn’t say it changed my relationship with the school. At the end of the day, it’s not like I’m there with a specific person.”

He says it doesn’t change the relationship but he’s at Michigan last weekend, considering them instead. I’m not sure why VT wasn’t able to get another coach to step in and support that relationship, but the whole event may cost VT at least one recruit and that’s just the 19 class (which probably involved more work per recruit than normal, due to the smaller class). VT will recover, and maybe Coach Nix will be a silver lining, but it’s regrettable it happened. Not a really nice comment about Adam, but he probably doesn’t spend every day coddling recruits like the other coaches have to do.
