The Generals, Patton, MacArthur, Marshall and the Winning of WWII

goes into this. Book by Winston Groom, very good read. Patton was an accomplished cavalry officer. The scope of the book is to much for a movie, and of course the details of much of history don't necessarily make for good movies.
