I'm thinking energy savings...native to SW US deserts...
so scarce water, slow growth (?) so when you spend a lot of resources to pollinate, you want to make it a good one. All of these flowers synchronize somehow to improve pollination..chances.
Headed up to the Cranberry Glades in WV in a couple weeks, same kind of thing with orchids, you need to be there or be square, End of June - like June 30th - is the best time to see them flower., it's over pretty quickly, same kind of thing, orchids live symbiotically with fungi so slow energy development.
