Sorry to disagree, but 2 competitive FBS programs
in a state make for better programs at both schools. Alabama/Auburn, Michigan/Michigan State, Florida/FSU/Miami, Iowa/Iowa State, the Texas schools, etc., every state with at least 2 FBS schools can attest to this.
And Virginia was actually a better program for the first part of the George Welsh era. Tech had the disadvantages of no conference affiliation during the Dooley years, and we played a pathetic schedule because of it. Yes, Dooley got us on probation, which Beamer had to deal with for 6 years with a 24-40-2 record before we started our bowl streak. It is disgraceful what algroh and the copcoach did to destroy Welsh's fine efforts for nearly 20 years.
Derision of Hooverville State...oops! Virginia helps no one. The Cavs need to become a George Welsh winner again to improve football at all schools in the Commonwealth.
