Endlesss possibilities

Seems like there could be endless ways to configure this. For example, if Amazon wanted to livestream all home games of Clemson and Florida State, but they don't want the whole conference, could ESPN sell that package to Amazon? Would the media contract allow it, and would everyone make money? (Chip Swofford will need some compenstion.) The rest of the games would just be distributed the way they are today.

If Amazon wanted the top six teams from the SEC, could they offer those six a rate high enough to break up the conference? I guess it's possible, but that would be soooo much money that it might be unprofitable.

We may get our first look at this when the B1G makes their next contract. If you view Amazon as just another party making a competetive bid for media rights, it really does seem simple. But we are being told that Amazon and other tech companies who enter the fray want a hand-picked selection of sterling programs, only. What happens to the conference? I can't imagine the B1G caving in to Amazon. But they will have to offer someting imaginative. Ask Amazon for a flat figure for the entire conference package with the freedom to stream Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, or whom ever they want every Saturday all season. The lesser games default back to BTN, Fox Sports, and anyone esle who wants a piece. Their chances of getting that deal are improved if they are able to add Oklahoma and Texas (or Kansas). The more bluebloods at the top of the conference, the more attractive is the overall package.

The SEC will have half of their Tier 1 rights (currently with CBS) up for bids around that time too. They will not allow Oklahoma/Texas to ride off into the sunset without making a bid. Shared Tier 1 content may not be enough to pay for those two.

Maybe there is no problem after all. Maybe Amazon will be happy to jump into college sports as just another media company doing business with whole conferences. Their website is full products and media content that doesn't sell like hotcakes. Not every book is a bestseller, but having deep and varied content can make money too. I think the conference structure is safe, for now.
