I do agree that would be ideal plan for them.


However, it may not be feasible when you consider the total number of sports sponsored at the NCAA DI level. If the conferences break away, then it could mean schools could be forced to add sports (i.e. M&W ice hockey, M&W water polo, women's bowling, etc) to have enough participating schools or open the association to partial membership.

Besides, even if the new association has a new name, it is still essentially the same thing as the NCAA. Remember the bulk of the NCAA is the various committees and subcommittees that make bylaws and rules for each sport. Those committees and subcommittees are made up of reps from the various members regardless whether you are talking DI, DII, or DIII. I don't think the new association would deviate too much from the structure currently used by the NCAA.
