You might think that, but in reality, its not so simple

Virginia Tech's offensive line has been more or less equal over time, minus a serious dip from 2005 to 2008. But Tech has been able to have multiple elite backs during that time, including Suggs, Jones, Evans, Williams, Wilson, and others. They were helped by solid play from their respective OLs, but they still possessed innate abilities to take their game to another level. They were able to read defenses, see the field, follow the play and accelerate, decelerate, and cut to find open ground.

When the trio of Evans, Williams and Wilson left Tech, the OL didn't just fold out causing our running game to evaporate. You might even be able to make a case that the OL has improved over the last few years. But the RB's greatness was helped by their OL play, but their greatness came from their abilities as backs.

As we've watched the running game struggle the past many years, its not the OL that has gotten worse, its the RBs.

I think now, Fuente is coaching the OL and RBs up to flourish in his system. I expect we'll see great things from our RBs in the coming years.
