The Devyn Ford recruitment is pretty good proof that VT isn't bigtime.
I don't blame the coaches, they can only sell what they have. I don't blame the fans, giving to the athletic department (and school) just isn't cultural for us. I don't blame the kid, he made a choice between two schools for which there is a pretty big gap.
We've got a lot of dreams of national championship contenders and being the next Clemson. But PSU is the next Clemson, not VT. We are a lot closer to UMD and NCSU than Clemson and PSU. The $$$ gap is huge and widening. It will likely cost us our coach soon enough.
We have to make due with what we have. We have an excellent AD who found us a very good coach who can win games with less. Soon enough, he's going to decide to go try to win games with more and we should wish him well and hope that AD makes another good hire.
But we should disperse with the illusions. We shouldn't be expecting giving to increase by $20M to make us competitive, that's not happening. We shouldn't be expecting top 10 or even top 15 classes. We shouldn't be expecting to play for ACC championships on the regular.
We are what we are, let's enjoy it.
