I had shingles about 20 years ago.Started with these "prickley" sensations

in the left side of my mouth and tongue. It did start burning some but spread very little. Went to the doctor and learned that it was a form of the herpes virus. He gave me some form of pill medication (I don't remember what it was) and took a blood sample to confirm the diagnosis, but all signs of it were gone in about 4-6 weeks. Didn't eat much during that period because it was difficult to chew. Also, I do remember having chicken pox when I was about 5 years old. Good luck!
