After further review...69 minutes, 7 seconds
In 7 of the 14 games the Hoovers never led, in the other 7 they had the lead for a total of a little over 69 minutes. That's 8.2% of total playing time in 14 games. The longest time they had the lead in any one game was 20 minutes and 33 seconds out of 60 minutes in 2014...we won that game 24-20, scoring the winning TD with a minute and 48 seconds left in the game. In 2008 they led for 12 minutes, in 2009 for 10 minutes, and in 2012 for 9 1/2 minutes. Three times when they had a lead during the game we won by a field goal (2008, 2012, 2015). Maybe we were lucky, or maybe they just stunk more than we did. After all they only held an average lead of less than 5 minutes out of a 60 minute game.
14 wins in a row is pretty dominant, but if one team can't maintain a lead except 8% of the time it's hard to win. Some day the streak will end...records are made to be broken. I don't want to think about the end of our beating DSU. I love beating them, but at the end of the day it loses its appeal. It would mean more if the competition was real. Like Miami, a real rival.
