FWIW one of the former BCS computers, the Colley Matrix, ranks UCF No. 1
on Jan 10th. Some people believe that add some validity to UCF's claim. It is no different than USC claiming a national title in 1939 based on the Dickinson System. I don't remember anyone making a fuss over USC's decision in 2004, so no reason to make a fuss over UCF's claim.
I suspect a reason people take issue with UCF's claim is because UCF is a G5 school and UCF is not accepting the status quo. After all it seems like the G5 schools have been subconsciously relegated to a "second class" status within FBS football. I suspect a majority of DI college football fans would prefer to see the G5s rejoin the DII....errr.....DI-FCS schools and leave the DI-FBS strictly for the 5 power conferences and 4 Indies (Notre Dame, Navy, Army, and BYU). Bye Bye UMass, NM State, Idaho (already switching to FCS), and Liberty.
