The mid-range jumper is not a high efficiency shot...


Ideally teams would either shoot layups or dunks, or if you are going to take a tougher shot from distance, make it worth three. Although, of course, there are always corrections to what teams are doing. As more teams look for either layups or threes, and more teams defend those areas, maybe the mid-range game will come back.

As for the post-up game, I think the evidence is that post-up play is also low efficiency as it generally leads to difficult shots (turn-arounds or shots with big guys right in your face). Most post-up offense is a vehicle to getting inside-out (as Brad Stevens says) to get higher quality shots.
