It isn't a legal issue, it is certainly one of professionalism

We are constantly reminded in my field to never give the hint of ethical impropriety, that it is enouhg to ruin our careers. As a coach who parents send their kids to showing ethically dubious behavior is an issue for him WRT being a colllege coach IMO. That said, I am well aware schools often don't care under the just win mantra, I want VT to be better than that.
