I would argue that the punt return isn't as "safe" as many think
The 2 gunners just need to get past the 1-2 players shadowing him to have a running start for the PR. The remaining players (especially the LS) can have a running start because someone is not line up across from him or trying to rush the punter. Instead, that player is releasing to run back towards the PR to block for him. If the punt team decides to use wide splits on the LOS (see hyperlink below), then it gives more players an opportunity to have a free run at the PR.
