"Right now" being the key in your statement.


Being a blue blood=history not "what have you done lately", it is the quintessential old money vs new money argument. A team can be "elite" for a few years, that doesn't mean their program achieves blue blood status. Conversely a team can be a shadow of what it used to be and remain a blue blood (for a while) based on history alone.
