By definition I don't think either of those answers guarantees the best tea

But what is the criteria, the best team over the course of the year? Or the best team on April 6, 2018?

I don't think any sport can have a foolproof method of determining that. But a 7-game series does more to get it right than other options.

Is the football method really better? Don't we argue about who should be the 4 teams in the tournament? Does the NFL get it right with 12 teams every year?

People complain about the NBA and watching the Cavs and Warriors battle it out every year, but there's not many denying those are the two best basketball teams on the planet
