You do make valid points.

What stuck out to me in the article is the following statement, "The NCAA has apparently never looked into the Nike-Bagley relationship, but six experts on NCAA compliance told The Oregonian/OregonLive that the parent-coaches paid to run their kids' club basketball teams could be a breach of amateurism rules." Even if the money is being paid to the father and the son is not receiving a dime, it could still be viewed as "preferential treatment or extra benefits based on their athletics ability."

As far as the Bush scandal goes, part of the NCAA's ruling was based on the conclusion that because Bush's family received the "benefit" from 2 prospective agents, then so did Bush. Now that isn't to say Bush didn't receive benefits (i.e. limo rides) for himself. I believe both O.J Mayo's family and Joe McKnight's family received improper benefits in addition to the players receiving them. Mayo and McKnight gave the NCAA extra fuel to come down hard on USC. Whether it is legal or not is unclear, but it is definitely 50 shades of gray. It may all depend on whether the NCAA sees any difference between Nike paying the AAU team, who then pays the father, who then uses some of that money on his son or his benefits from it (i.e. parents able to pay the mortgage on the more lavish home he currently lives in) vs. Nike or the AAU team giving money directly to the son.
