I've got one or two points that MIGHT be essential differences

First, there's a pretty long history of hiring dad or some person close to the family as a way around the rules you pointed out. Nike gave big money to dad, funneled through an AAU team. So the player didn't accept any money....his dad did. And qualified or not, if the AAU team wants to hire him to a high paying job, that's their call.

And making it different from Reggie Bush - and yes, his FAMILY got a new home, etc., I believe that home came from a USC booster.

Now is Nike a Duke booster? Well, in reality, probably...but by an NCAA definition? Probably not.

Again, scummy, but I'm not sure if it's actually even NCAA illegal.
