Cost has risen due to available funds.

If the demand persists in light of rising costs, costs will rise until demand drops. We're reaching the price maturity point. Eliminating majors actually is entering into the decline on the curve.

Demand is dropping and the value of a higher education is crashing drastically. The government has artificially inflated prices and parents sacrificing their own financial situations so there kids can have fun for a few years has driven prices through the roof.

My education was not paid for. I earned scholarships (good luck as a white male with good grades and middle class parents) but mostly took out loans. I paid them for 10 years. Half a mortgage payment a month. I valued my time. I did not screw off. I graduated with a 3.5 and had many great offers the fall of my senior year. I pursued co-ops and built experience rather than going on spring break and working at a pool in the summer.

Parents have to do a better job of preparing their kids for the real world. Subsidizing wasted opportunities is not the way to do that.
