Back in those days...
IMHO, the Big East was a little better in football than the ACC. The Big East's major problem was it's makeup. It was filled with a bunch of small private BB schools that called the shots. The large "all sport" schools didn't push back, thus they were ripe for the picking. Once the ACC grabbed Miami & (begrudgingly) VT, it was game over for the Big East.
UCONN should have jumped into "big boy" football with both feet as soon as the Big East started playing football. Unfortunately for them, they waited until all of the best schools had left before starting, thus they're on the outside looking in. The ACC doesn't need them, and the Big-10 doesn't want them. Heck, the Big-10 didn't want Rutsgers, so I doubt they'll make a similar mistake.
