Thanks for the @. I can't really recommend a brand, @hokie80

We owned a 2001 Jayco Class C Motorhome. Jayco mostly makes trailers, so you'll see very few Jayco motorhomes, if any, trolling around. It was a low-budget RV, but it got the job done. We bought it in 2013 with about 50k miles on it, for $14k, then sold it a year and a half later, with 56k miles on it, for $16.5. But it developed a pretty serious leak in the top that we had to get fixed that cost $1,700, so we didn't exactly come out ahead. But we came out WAY ahead vs. renting ...

Ours was a 31-foot Class C, so it was pretty big. It had the 6.8-liter Ford V-10 gas engine in it. Do NOT get an 8-cylinder motor. The gas engine did okay (vs. a diesel, which I've never experienced). Even when the hills were pretty steep, I could find a sweet spot in the pedal that would enable the tranny to hold a certain gear and maintain speed without over-revving.

It was, hands down, the greatest thing I ever did for my family (outside of the usual grinding away day-to-day and being a good father and all that crap). We really went outside our comfort zone, because we didn't know a damn thing about RV-ing, and we bought an RV and went cross country in it on a whim. Awesome. What an experience.

Oh, one more thing ... MAKE SURE THE AWNING IS ROLLED UP AND LOCKED UP TIGHT. When that thing unfurls at 60 miles and hour, it's quite an experience. Happened to us twice.

Here's a link to a page I set up on TSL when I was selling it.
