Cumberland OL TJ Jackson Commits To Virginia Tech

According to a tweet from Cumberland County Public Schools, Cumberland High School (VA) senior offensive tackle TJ Jackson has verbally committed to Virginia Tech.

Measuring in at 6’9″, 325 pounds (per Hudl), Jackson played offensive tackle and defensive tackle his senior season. The Farmville Herald reports that he held offers from Virginia Tech, Virginia and NC State before coming to his decision.

Virginia Tech now boasts three offensive line commitments in the class of 2016, including Jackson, Nansemond River (Suffolk, VA) standout Thomas Jarrett Hopple and Darlington (Rome, GA) star Patrick Kearns. The latter prospect missed his entire senior season while recovering from a stress fracture in his foot.

Check out highlights of Tech’s newest pledge below, and stay tuned to TSL for more on this development in the coming days.

  1. This kid has potential but if you watched the film, you didn’t see Cumberland throw the ball, so we don’t know if the kid can pass block. Cumberland runs what looks like the veer with a QB, and 3 running backs. Very unusual even in HS. Having said that, Jackson was consistently drive blocking players 8 to 10 yards downfield. Amazing! He could be really something but he needs to loose a little weight and learn some technique. Cumberland is a very small rural school and the talent level is no where near the big schools in the metropolitan areas of the state. Nevertheless, I think young Mr. Jackson will be a project worth keeping an eye on. Good luck to him and thanks for being a Hokie!

  2. There was one play early on in the video where the defenders were falling like bowling pins.
I got a chuckle out of that one. Could definitely clog the middle on defense.

  3. we may want him as OL, but he looked very quick, defended wide&inside runs well, and was persistent as DL. more enthusiasm shown there as well.

    Go Hokies!

Meaningful and Merry Christmas, to all.

  4. His feet seem good, especially chasing down smaller, supposedly quicker RBs when he played DT.
Seemed to have a pretty good motor, exploding into blocks. He of course was playing small guys but he seemed intent on blocking his assignment and finishing.

Looks like he could definitely be a road grader for the run game

  5. Anyone else thinking “Blindside” and Michael Ohr? Damn this kid is big! Of course, gotta keep in mind this is high school footage and big kids like that tend to push his defensive assignment back into the second level…need to watch about getting downfield too soon and getting a penalty 🙂 But on defense he pushes pretty well into the backfield, too.

Wonder if we’ll get to see Jackson and Settle square off in practice. Two really bigs, the competition could help them both.

  6. Welcome TJ..we are glad to have you in the Hokie family big dude..

Don’t worry, you are still young enough to grow some :>)

  7. “Beat it or I’ll call the Brute Squad!”
    “I’m on the Brute Squad.”
    “You ARE the Brute Squad.”

Now substitute “offensive line” for “Brute Squad”.
