Week In Review: JoVonn Quillen Continues To Dominate

The latest on how Virginia Tech football’s recruits performed in the previous week…

GRIDIRON STARS

– It was the JoVonn Quillen Jr. show in Hampton’s (VA) 39-19 win over Kecoughtan. Quillen, who plays quarterback and defensive back for the Crabbers, threw for two touchdown passes, ran 52 yards for a score at the end of the first half, and returned an interception 58 yards for another score in the win. Quillen has guided the Crabbers to six wins and no losses so far in 2015.

– Wide receiver Divine Deablo had touchdown catches of 36 and 77 yards as Winston-Salem (N.C.) Mount Tabor blew away Reynolds, 55-21. Mount Tabor evened its record at 4-4.

– Quarterback Joshua Jackson completed 10 of his 18 pass attempts for 134 yards and three touchdowns as Saline (MI) downed Monroe, 28-0. The Hornets are undefeated through seven games.

Hudl.com has Jackson’s highlights from all seven contests. Here they are…

– Cornerback recruit Troy Pride Jr. continues to shine on offense this season. Last week, Pride had two receptions for 65 yards and a touchdown as Greer (S.C.) routed Berea, 61-0. The Yellow Jackets are 7-0.

Also last week, Pride learned that he has been selected to play in the 2015 NC/SC Shrine Bowl. He’ll play alongside fellow Tech commit, Sam Denmark.

Victor Greene, a future linebacker at Virginia Tech, rushed for 66 yards and a touchdown in Spotsylvania (VA) Courtland’s 34-13 win over a talented Chancellor squad. Greene’s 11-yard touchdown run in the second quarter was the first score of the game, which was tied 6-6 at the half.

Courtland has won five straight after dropping its season opener.

– Suwanee (GA) Collins Hill, which features Virginia Tech-bound linebacker Emmanuel Belmar, has won four straight after last week’s win over Duluth. The Eagles lost their first three games of the season.

Per MaxPreps.com, Belmar is credited with 29 tackles and seven sacks so far this season. His senior season highlights through seven games are below…

– Tech wide receiver recruit Eric Kumah returned a kickoff 92 yards for a score and hauled in an 8-yard touchdown reception, but Woodbridge (VA) Forest Park fell to Colonial Forge, 45-22. The Bruins drop to 4-2.

– Good performances from Virginia Tech-bound recruits Reggie Floyd and Devante Smith weren’t enough to propel Manassas (VA) Stonewall Jackson, which fell to Osbourn, 33-28, and remains without a win in the 2015 season.

Floyd, a senior safety/running back, had 172 yards of offense (114 rushing, 58 receiving) and two touchdowns (one rushing, one receiving) in the loss. Smith, a junior athlete, passed for 120 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 46 yards.

Stonewall Jackson (0-7) has a good chance for its first win of the season next week, when it faces a 1-5 Patriot squad.

  1. Love Jackson’s highlight. He’s making lots of different throws both in the pocket and on the run.
