Top Class Of 2016 Targets Expected To Visit

Asheboro (N.C.) defensive lineman Nick Coe, Grassfield (Chesapeake, VA) defensive end Patrick Jones II, IMG Academy (FL) cornerback Khalil Ladler and Lafayette (Williamsburg, VA) outside linebacker Cheyton Pine are all seniors with Virginia Tech offers. All four are expected to be in Blacksburg this weekend.

Coe, an impressive physical specimen measuring in at 6’6″, 265 pounds, plans to be at Tech tomorrow on an unofficial visit to watch the Hokies take on Pitt. The Tech coaches wanted Coe to come up for a game. Barring a change of heart, it appears they’ll get their wish.

Auburn, Florida State and Virginia Tech are currently the standout prospect’s three favorites. As of now, he is scheduled to take officials to all three before making a commitment. The Florida State trip is scheduled for Halloween weekend. Auburn is set for the final weekend in November, when the Tigers host Alabama in the Iron Bowl, and Virginia Tech is set for January 22-24.

Patrick Jones II, who was featured in a TSL Pass update earlier this week, says he is close to making his college decision. Whether or not the 6’5″, 235-pound senior will be ready after this weekend is the question.

In addition to Virginia Tech, California, Duke, Illinois, Marshall, NC State, Pittsburgh, Virginia and Wake Forest have also offered the Grizzlies star. He has taken unofficial visits to Duke, NC State and Virginia Tech. This weekend’s trip to Blacksburg will be his first official visit.

For Khalil Ladler, Virginia Tech will be his first official visit destination as well. The 5’10”, 170-pound senior, a Georgia native, attends IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. Ladler is sitting out his senior season while recovering from a torn ACL suffered over the summer, but Virginia Tech is hot on his trail. He also boasts numerous other ACC and SEC offers.

The Hokies had three class of 2016 cornerback commits before Kareem Felder flipped to Ohio State. Myles Wolfolk and Troy Pride Jr. remain on board, but the staff would like another corner in this class.

247Sports first reported that Pine, a 6’3″, 210-pound linebacker, will be at Tech tomorrow on an unofficial visit. The Lafayette star is currently a Pittsburgh commit, but he is a player Virginia Tech has offered. He also seemed very high on the Hokies just prior to his commitment to the Panthers.

Both Pine and the Tech staff have stayed in touch since his commitment, so it’ll be interesting to see what he says following tomorrow’s trip.

Pine is a player I like a lot. He is athletic and fast and would give the Hokies another athletic and speedy linebacker in the class of 2016. If he gets bigger, perhaps defensive end could be in the cards.

Stay tuned to TSL for reports on these players and other recruits we confirm to be in Blacksburg tomorrow. Sherando (Stephens City, VA) star junior linebacker Dylan Rivers is another uncommitted target we know will be at Tech. He tweeted the news earlier today. Rivers is very high on Virginia Tech, but he’ll also be watching his friend and former Sherando teammate, George Aston, play fullback for Pitt.
