Virginia Tech Receives Commitment From OLB Emmanuel Belmar

Collins Hill (Suwanee, GA) rising senior Emmanuel Belmar, a 6’2″, 220-pound outside linebacker prospect, announced this afternoon that he has verbally committed to Virginia Tech. Belmar, who is rated a 3-star recruit by 247Sports.com, also considered scholarship offers from Colorado State, Syracuse and Virginia, among others.

Virginia Tech was the first to offer Belmar, coming through back on February 3 of this year.

Virginia Tech’s class of 2016 commitment list grows to 11 with Belmar’s decision. He is the second linebacker pledge for the Hokies in this class, joining Courtland (Spotsylvania, VA) standout Vic Greene.

  1. The fact that we were first to offer, back in February, makes me feel good about this commit. Offer list and 3 star rating isn’t that impressive, BUT, as CC often emphasizes, he was a fairly early VT offer, so he must be the kind of player that we want.

  2. His speed and style of play reminds me a bit of Dadi Nicholas although he does not quite have his motor. Interesting pickup although I suspect he ends up on the DL.

  3. Highlites show an amazing number of plays with Belmar being unblocked and making the tackle on a blitz! There are a few plays shown where he gets off blocks well to make the tackle. Also there are a few plays where he drops in coverage and breaks up the pass. Belmar seems very quick with some speed and doesn’t give up on the play. One serious technique problem is he has long arms and outside the hash marks or in the open field he arm tackles. Doesn’t have that problem when inside the hashes. Looks like a good get especially if he can add 20 lbs of muscle and not lose a step.

    1. Good break down. It’s nice to see LB film doing some coverage. I noticed as well, seems like a instinctive player, not a hard hitter.
