OXVT really outdid himself with this one, and you can tell that it took a lot of time to put together: an infographic honoring Virginia Tech football’s most decorated and accomplished NFL players.
Grab a cup of coffee and peruse the jerseys (click for larger version). There are some impressive players here, including (by our count) 8 Pro-Bowlers and 9 Hokies with Super Bowl rings (8 listed, plus Carroll Dale in Super Bowls I and II) — let us know in the comments section if there are any more Pro Bowlers or Super Bowl winners that OXVT or we missed.
or was it Los Angeles Rams.
or was it Los Angeles Rams?
Are we missing a Fuller?
I count 5 players on that jersey list that were on the 99 team. Any other team have more?
Nice work. Thanks. Go Hokies!
Where can I buy the poster??
Good stuff.
Beamer’s team mate and defensive backfield running pardner Jimmy Richardson was on the Jets Super Bowl champions that stunned the Colts with Joe Namath’s “called shot” or predicted victory after 1969 season. BTW I remember reading an interview in the Tech sports newspaper back then that the players all got a $26,000 share for winning the championship. We’ve come a long way moneywise since back then.
Another Jet signed the same year as Namath was Bob Schwiekert (sp?), VPI’s QB class of ’64.
And also there was George Preas, who was I think Tech’s first NFL player. Preas finished at VPI in the mid ’50s and played offensive line for the Colts for a number of years, including the famous “Ice Bowl” with the Giants (1959 or 1960).
Robert Brown, Mike Johnson and Tony Paige come to mind.
I meant if there are any Pro Bowlers or Super Bowl winners that we had missed (I just updated that part of the post). I’m sure there are lots of players not included in the infographic, and you listed three of the best.
Ox should market these poster size, poster quality. Betcha he could sell them.
– very nice graphics (though Dale’s jersey doesn’t look GB green on my computer).
you should market this; maybe add a “footer” list of other players whose jerseys were not
shown.
– definitely market this! posters, mini posters, and post cards
– and your first buyer should be the VTAD football recruiting team! en mass and one
poster per recruit AND parent, with follow-up post cards as needed to each!
– would make a nice locker room/ player lounge graphic; scale up for the new
practice facility, too.
Go Hokies! go oxvt!
Thanks man –
Carroll Dale was originally drafted by the St. Louis Rams where he played until 1964. That’s the jersey shown for him.
or was it Los Angeles Rams
