Rivals bumped point guard signee Justin Robinson up to a four-star ranking recently, and that brings nearly all of Virginia Tech’s 2015 high school basketball signees up to four-star rankings by all the major services.

For purposes of this article, “major services” refers to Rivals, Scout, 247Sports, and ESPN. Here’s how they view Tech’s three signees out of high school: Chris Clarke, Justin Robinson, and Kerry Blackshear.

Chris Clarke

  • Rivals: 4-star, #68 in the nation
  • Scout: 4-star, #74 in the nation
  • 247Sports: 4-star, #43 in the nation
  • ESPN: 4-star, #53 in the nation

Justin Robinson

  • Rivals: 4-star, #107 in the nation
  • Scout: 4-star, #90 in the nation
  • 247Sports: 3-star, #150 in the nation
  • ESPN: 4-star, not ranked in the ESPN Top 100

Kerry Blackshear

  • Rivals: 3-star, #112 in the nation
  • Scout: 4-star, #96 in the nation
  • 247Sports: 4-star, #81 in the nation
  • ESPN: 4-star, not ranked in the ESPN Top 100

Comments

Newly-signed Johnny Hamilton is not included here, because he is a JUCO signee, not a high schooler. Hamilton’s information is incomplete in the major services, and he has no star ranking in any of the major services.

Clarke is a unanimous 4-star, while Robinson and Blackshear are consensus 4-stars.

To reflect the major service rankings, we have updated our SportsWar rankings to list Clarke, Robinson, and Blackshear as 4-star players, and we have listed Hamilton as a 3-star.

While 247Sports only lists Robinson as a three-star, they rate him as an 89. If they rated him as a 90, he would be a 4-star player, thus making him a unanimous 4-star player among the services. In the immortal words of Maxwell Smart:

What about team rankings? They Hokies are faring well in those, too:

Note: The Rivals and Scout rankings listed above don’t include the addition of Johnny Hamilton.
