2015 Virginia Tech football schedule released

Virginia Tech’s 2015 football schedule has been released.  It is highlighted by the big home game against defending National Champion Ohio State.

Here is how the schedule breaks down…

Monday, September 7: vs. Ohio State
Saturday, September 12: vs. Furman
Saturday, September 19: at Purdue
Saturday, September 26: at ECU
Saturday, October 3: vs. Pitt
Friday, October 9: vs. NC State
Saturday, October 17: at Miami
Saturday, October 24: vs. Duke
Saturday, October 31: at Boston College
Thursday, November 12: at Georgia Tech
Saturday, November 21: vs. UNC
Saturday, November 28: at UVA

The Hokies play the Monday night game against Ohio State, they have a Friday night home contest against NC State, and they play their usual Thursday night game at Georgia Tech.  Tech does not have a home Thursday night game this season.

NC State must play Louisville before heading to Blacksburg.  Playing at home in a short prep week usually gives the home team the advantage.  The Hokies will also get a few extra days to prepare for Georgia Tech’s option attack, which is always advantageous.

We’ll have much more on the schedule coming up this afternoon. For now, here’s a look at a brief video from the ACC Digital Network, in which they name VT-OSU as one of their top five games of the upcoming season:

  1. I don’t understand why we went to WF last year, didn’t play them in 2013, and they are not coming to the Burg on this schedule.

  2. I expect Bburg & Cburg might move their games that week to Thurs or Sat….I know if I were a HS AD in the NRV & Roanoke, I’d definitely try to make it happen with my opponent that week

  3. 1 home game after Oct 24th… it’s almost an invitation to put the tailgate gear up early!

    1. Actually we have 4.5 home games. If you have not been to UVA vs VT need you know that 30-40% of the seats are filled with HOKIES. Maybe more if UVA has their usual season. It’s closer to 757 and Richmond areas to boot. Come by for great fun

  4. I wish the NCAA would ban Friday night games out of respect to the high schools. I know I did not appreciate it when the NFL started playing Thurday night games last season. I think the NCAA should schedule a few high profile games on Sunday afternoon to see if they get the message.

  5. I’ll be interested to see how everyone responds to the Friday night game with NC State. It means one less day off for those that have a hard time making the Thursday night games. The counterpoint is that Friday night games have an even worse perception than Thursday night games.

  6. I’m a little worried about the start of the season… Kinda looks like the start of the 2010 season.

    1. If we lose to Furman, I’m going to fight someone. I’m sure whoever agreed to this said,
“it is only Furman.” It was only a bad JMU team, too.

  7. Not too bad except for the Friday night game with NCS. At least we get extra time for GT. To me, what will be more important is the time of each game dictated by tv.

  8. Good to see NCState on the schedule…someone different from normal fare. Don’t like playing on Friday night though. ..Friday nights are for high school football. Although the last UVa game worked well on Friday night. I’m looking at this schedule looking for a run at an undefeated season after the first game. Who doesn’t have such dreams in preseason, 125 contenders, only one can finish at the top.
