Settle is considered one of the top DTs in the class of 2015

Fresh off of a Military Bowl win over Cincinnati, the Virginia Tech football program now turns its attention toward closing out the class of 2015 in strong fashion. There are three announcements in particular this week that Hokienation should tune in to. In order of when they will announce, here they are…

Tim Settle, DT, Stonewall Jackson (Manassas, VA), Class of 2015

Decision Date, Time, and Place: Friday, January 2, at 4 pm EST at the Under Armour All-American Bowl

The UA All-American Bowl begins at 4 pm. Settle is among those expected to announce during the broadcast.

Where you can see it: ESPN2

Why you should tune in: Settle took official visits to Louisville, Oklahoma State, Southern Cal, Virginia Tech and Washington State. Tech, which landed Stonewall Jackson alum Greg Stroman in the class of 2014, has a good chance.

Talent-wise there is no doubt Settle has the potential to be a big-time college player, but there is a caveat. Academics are a serious concern. There are rumors he may have to attend prep or even junior college before arriving on the major college level.

Lawrence Cager, WR, Calvert Hall (Baltimore, MD), Class of 2015

Decision Date and Time: Saturday, January 3, 1 pm EST, at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl

The Army Bowl begins at 1 pm EST. Cager is among those expected to announce during the broadcast. Exactly what time is unclear at this point.

Where you can see it: NBC

Why you should tune in: Virginia Tech is a finalist along with Alabama, Georgia, Miami and Wake Forest. Cager attended Tech’s July Camp this year and also made an official visit to Blacksburg earlier this month. Cager was thought to be a heavy Ohio State lean early on in this race, but the Buckeyes are no longer in the picture. Georgia and Miami have made late moves and Alabama is always a threat, but Virginia Tech appears to have a real chance as well. Cager has a big frame and excellent hands, and he would give the Hokies a tall, 4-star receiving target to go along with promising young wideouts Cameron Phillips and Isaiah Ford.

Dwayne Lawson, QB, Hillsborough (Tampa, FL), Class of 2015

Decision Date, Time, and Place: Sunday, January 4, 9 pm EST at the Semper Fidelis Bowl

Where you can see it: Fox Sports One

Why you should tune in: The 247Sports prognosticators have been going in Virginia Tech’s direction in a big way this past month. Lawson, who de-committed from Miami earlier this month, visited Virginia Tech the weekend of the UVa game.

The 6’5″ Lawson would be a nice addition to a quarterback depth chart projected to include senior Michael Brewer, junior Brenden Motley, and red-shirt freshmen Chris Durkin and Andrew Ford next season.

Virginia Tech recruits Darius Fullwood (DE) and Mook Reynolds (CB) are expected to play in the Semper Fidelis game as well. Those two and Lawson are all on the East squad.

  1. Rivals is confirming that we’ve gotten a commitment from Settle :). No word on the other two. Go Hokiesports!

  2. Based on all of the conflicting predictions related to these student athletes, it doesn’t appear (to me) that any one of the three is really that excited about spending 4 to 5 years in scenic ‘BLEAKSBURG’ !!!
