McLaughlin out for the year; Wake game time set

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech starting offensive tackle Jonathan McLaughlin will undergo season-ending surgery on his left ankle Thursday at LewisGale Montgomery Hospital in Blacksburg, as announced by Mike Goforth, associate athletics director for sports medicine.

McLaughlin, a true sophomore from Mauldin, South Carolina, had started all 23 games in his career, 14 at left tackle last season and nine this year at right tackle). He injured the ankle in the loss to Boston College on Nov. 1.

Wade Hansen will get the first-team reps in practice this week. It would be his first career start if he gets the nod on Saturday when the Hokies take on 19th-ranked Duke in Durham.

Wake Forest game time, TV set

The ACC announced today that Virginia Tech’s game at Wake Forest on November 22nd will kick off at 12:30 and will be broadcast on the ACC Network. Click here for a list of local affiliates.

Virginia Tech’s first two games this season — the home opener against William & Mary and the following game against Ohio State, started at 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM, respectively. Since then, every Saturday game — seven of them so far — has been scheduled for noon or 12:30. Only the Friday at against Virginia on November 29th remains TBD at this point.

  1. Television broadcasts at 12:30 and TV timeouts are going to destroy college football; at least at Tech. We are not interested in going to the games anymore when so early and the experience at the games is greatly diminished with so many timeouts. I have no reason to believe this will improve when I hear how powerless Babcock feels about the situation.
