Stanford to take leave of absence

Virginia Tech head football coach Frank Beamer has announced that redshirt sophomore wide receiver Joshua Stanford will take a leave of absence from the team to take care of some personal issues. In making the announcement, Beamer said there will be no further comment on the situation.

Stanford, from Mississauga, Ontario, has played in all three games thus far in 2014, making two starts. He has five catches for 35 yards this season.

  1. Did I miss something with his family, girlfriend, school, etc? Or this a case of a guy getting benched for a Freshman, sulking about it, and quitting the team? If there is something bigger going on, my support is with him. Otherwise, grow up, be a man and fight through some adversity to help your TEAM or get your starting spot back.

  2. Thoughts and prayers to you Mr Stanford. Get well soon. Hope to see you making plays for the Hokies again.

  3. There are young men, with the hearts and minds of young men. I hope he just needs some time to reconcile his role on the team and it is nothing else, eg nothing serious.

  4. Josh –

Good luck with the issues – sorry they are with you – when you get things right come back and do your thing!

    GO HOKIES!

  5. Josh,
Hopefully you will see these posts and realize how much everyone appreciates your hard work. Hokie nation has your back #5

    God Bless

  6. I’m sorry that Josh is having problems, I am very pleased that his coaches and teammates are willing to rally around this young man and provide him with the support and/or assistance he needs. The Hokie nation, the Hokie FAMILY.

  7. How much offensive line time did Teller and Smith get? Teller particularly looks like someone who could go man-to-man with Williams.

  8. Hope things work out for him. Anyone at the ECU game could see both on and off the field that something was going on with #5.

  9. What?!?! After last year, I really thought he was going to break out this year. I hope he can take care of things and get back in the M&O groove.

  10. Mr. Stanford,

We are very sorry that you are dealing with some challenges right now. Virginia Tech fans very much appreciate your effort and hard work and wish you the best!

We obviously hope you come back to the team whenever you are ready.

    THANK YOU!!
