Thanks to their huge win over Ohio State, the Hokies find themselves ranked in both major national polls.

Tech, who went to Columbus unranked, knocked off the then-#8 Buckeyes 35-21 on Saturday night. On Sunday, they moved into the top 25. The Hokies are #17 in the AP Poll, while Ohio State dropped to #22. In the Coaches Poll, the Hokies came in at #19, and strangely the Buckeyes are one spot ahead at #18.

VT is one of five ACC schools ranked in one or both polls.

Florida State: #1 AP, #1 Coaches
Virginia Tech: #17 AP, #19 Coaches
Louisville: #21 AP, unranked Coaches
Clemson: #23 AP, #24 Coaches
UNC: unranked AP, #25 Coaches

Duke and Pitt are also receiving votes in both polls.

  1. When Auburn won their last national championship they started the season either unranked or around #23, 24, or 25.

Could VT be the next unranked (or low ranked) team to win the MNC?

  2. How in the world can someone have Osu ranked ahead of tech. I saw one voter ballot still had Osu at number 6. Nuts.

  3. Wow – it is early but after things shake out next week there could be 6 ranked ACC teams. Pitt to me looks solid.

    1. Agree – I think Pitt is the one team where we don’t match up so well. They are big, physical and will run right at us. They also have a QB and enough talent at WR to force us to stay somewhat reasonably honest on D.
