East Lake (Tarpon Springs, FL) linebacker Carson Lydon has verbally committed to Virginia Tech. The 6’1″, 230-pound rising senior announced his decision on Twitter earlier this evening.

With Lydon in the fold, Virginia Tech now boasts five players in its 2015 Class. All five players – Lydon, Harry Lewis (DT), Eric Whitehead (DT), DuWayne Johnson (CB) and Mook Reynolds (DB) – are projected to play on the defensive side of the ball.

Boston College, Illinois, NC State, South Florida, Syracuse, Wake Forest and Wisconsin are among the other schools that have offered Lydon, who is rated a 3-star recruit by 247Sports.com. The standout linebacker turned in an outstanding junior season, amassing 159 tackles with 22 tackles for loss and 12 sacks. He forced four fumbles and had three interceptions as well.

  1. Carson Lydon, very glad to have you joining the Hokie Nation and can’t wait for you to experience it first hand – look forward to your arrival.

  2. A typo is just a typographical error. It does not describe a person, except someone who does not recognize a typo!

  3. Welcome Carson and to those of you who are negative….maybe it is better not to post idle chatter that is not uplifting for or graceful to this young man or any recruit.

  4. I for one am happy that he is a Hokie, and he enjoys this part of the Country (fishing, mountains, etc.). We need to let go of the negativity. Living in Florida, it is good to see Va Tech poaching Florida like Alabama and FSU have been poaching Virginians.

  5. Warm welcome to our (hopefully) new hokie. Although I’m a bit concerned that he can’t wait until he can’t suit up. Is he expecting an injury? suspension? change of commitment?

  6. I can see this guy having a great season. Along comes FSU and/or Florida and off he goes. Hope I’m wrong, wrong, wrong. Really skeptical about Florida recruits after all the VT decommits.

    1. Yep, let’s stop recruiting in Fla. where we got Maddy, Flowers, etc.
Maybe we can concentrate in Rhode Island. Bet we can dominate in that state.

    2. Not to be disrespectful to our newest verbal pledge but fsu is back to big game hunting…they are all over the us recruiting the best from each region. You will see more of a notre dame style program moving forward.

  7. 230 as a rising senior…wonder if he stays at LB, would be nice to up our size a bit there. Seems to be growing into a DE though.
