One Virginia Tech recruit has tasted state championship glory. Three more will get the chance this Saturday. Here is the rundown…
– Oscar Smith (Chesapeake, VA) defeated Colonial Forge, 17-0, to make the 6A state championship game. WR Jaylen Bradshaw and the Tigers will face Centreville for the title on Saturday at the University of Virginia. The two teams met for a state title back in 2011, with Oscar Smith coming out on top.
– Brunswick (Lawrenceville, VA), which features Tech-bound TE/DL Xavier Burke, downed Buckingham County, 27-0, to reach the Class 2A state championship. The Bulldogs meet undefeated Giles in the title contest on Saturday.
– Playing center, which is the position he played the final three games of the season, Billy Ray Mitchell helped Paramus Catholic (Paramus, N.J.) to a 13-6 win over St. Peter’s Prep in the Non0-Public Group 4 state championship. This is the second straight state title win for the Paladins.
Mitchell earned all-county honors for his performance this season, which included time at right tackle, guard, and center.
– A touchdown late by senior tailback Earl Hughes in the 4th gave L.C. Bird (Chesterfield, VA) a 7-3 win over Salem. DB/WR Shawn Payne and the Skyhawks will compete for the 5A state championship on Saturday against Trace McSorley and Briar Woods. Bird is seeking its second consecutive state championship.
Kickoff is 12:07 pm at UVa’s Scott Stadium.

PREVIOUS “WEEK IN REVIEW” REPORTS
Like to see 3 of 5 O-line in allstar games! (and one TE)
Oscar Smith has more wins at Scott Stadium than uva does.
Thanks, Chris. I like these updates.
Maybe you can list the Postseason games for uncommitted recruits after the season as well in future updates, or just the ones who will announce then. Just a thought.
Thanks for the update. I find it interesting/hopeful that 8 of the 17 are All-star bound plus a few coming in Jan too. My perception is that those who come early, do well and those who go to these type of events typically do well too…fingers crossed.
