4-Star Junior Ready To Announce

Woodland (Dorchester, S.C.) defensive end MichaelĀ Barnett is expected to announce his college choice today. Virginia Tech, which was the first school to offer a scholarship to the 6’4″, 245-pound junior, appears to be the team to beat.

Barnett has visited Blacksburg four times this year – the Spring Game, the camp and recruiting event that took place the weekend of July 13-14, and for two regular season games (Pitt and Maryland).

“I really really like Virginia Tech. They’re number one for me, and then there is Florida and then Florida State,” Barnett said in an interview with TechSideline.com following Tech’s win over Pitt in October. He has offers from VT, UF, and FSU. “I like the overall family vibe I get there. That’s just a feeling I get as well as from the players and coaches. Everybody is so nice there. It’s a cool environment. I really like the fans. They are true fans.”

Barnett, a consensus 4-star prospect, is also considering offers from Clemson, N.C. State and Tennessee. Stay tuned to TSL for his decision as well as follow-up should he pledge to Tech.

UPDATE (9:05 AM): Multiple outlets are reporting that Barnett has committed to Virginia Tech. We are working on verification. His official announcement is supposed to take place at noon.

      1. Barnett is actually a junior in high school, while Mihota is a senior. A big pickup, nonetheless.
