Virginia Tech Football announced this morning that the game with Clemson on September 30 is sold out.

The department issued a press release that stated in part:

“The Virginia Tech Athletics Department announced Wednesday that the Clemson game on Sept. 30 at Lane Stadium is officially sold out. Kickoff time is yet to be determined. Individual game tickets to the Clemson game were made available exclusively to Hokie Club members and season ticket holders. The rematch of the 2016 ACC Championship Game against the defending national champions will serve as the 2017 Maroon Effect game…”

Virginia Tech sold out 93 consecutive home games from the final game of 1998 against Virginia through the end of the 2012 season, ending with the 2013 home opener against Western Carolina. Since then, Virginia Tech has listed game attendance at Lane Stadium’s current capacity of 65,632 four times:

  • 2013 UNC
  • 2015 Ohio State
  • 2015 UNC
  • 2016 Georgia Tech

The Hokies are currently ranked #16 in both the AP and Coaches polls, while Clemson is ranked #3 in the AP Poll and #2 in the Coaches Poll. If both teams remain unbeaten until their September 30 matchup, it is expected to be one of the more hyped games in recent Virginia Tech football history. As noted above, kickoff time and television information will be announced at a later date.
